Are landing pages beneficial for SEO?

I was thinking of creating a specific landing page for our bed and breakfast hotel for advertising campaigns that I'm conducting through our local chamber of commerce. Is this useful to do, or should I just have the traffic come to the main site URL?

Not only beneficial but sometimes crucial! I once did a big adwords campaign for a client of mine and had 25 different landing pages. After examining them closer, I found out that my landing pages were more descriptive and had better content and longer visitor time on site than the client’s actual pages.

What we did was to incorporate the landing pages on the menu, helping visitors find what they need and helping the client, rank for all his main keywords.

Try it, you never know :)

Absolutely!  Landing pages are essential, not only for people finding you, but for conversions.  You only have a few moments to capture someones interest, so a good landing page will make the most of it.  They don’t have to click from your main page to whatever page they are actually looking for.

Hi Dean, Thanks for your answer! I mean from a SEO perspective. Are they beneficial from an SEO perspective, or are they just adding more pages to my website that are already there. I know they’re beneficial from a conversion perspective. I just don’t want to be penalized by Google or other search engines if they’re SEO bad. :)

herr Yes, they are because you can optimize each one for more specific terms. Obviously, your homepage will get most of the attention, and compete for the strongest keywords & phrases (e.g., “bed & breakfast+your area” is probably the most competitive, most searched), so optimize landing pages for low-hanging fruit such as “places to stay in (your area)”. And then include a link to your home and/or reservations page with the anchor text of “Bed & Breakfast in (your area)” to increase your internal links.

Google will not penalize you unless it sees duplicate content or spam on landing pages, but you obviously know to aviod that, so you’re safe. Googles whole object is to think like a human and direct humans where they want to go, so if you follow the rule that if something is good for conversions, it’s probably good for SEO, you’ll see results for sure.
